Painkiller Detox

Pain killer medications don't just mask pain, they can also change the way abusers function mentally. If a person has emotional issues to begin with, the added effects of the drugs can eventually build the foundation for a full blown addiction.

Detox is the initial first part of the journey to a non dependant drug free way of life, this part is a great deal more than just taking time off from the drugs. By detox we mean actually cleansing the body of the residual drugs and toxins that have developed over years of drug abuse. Detox flushes out all of the painkiller's toxins and purifies the person's body so the unwanted effects of the drug are no longer present.

The Referral Network can assess an addicted individual and refer them to the most suitable treatment centre for their individual circumstances.

During the initial stages of detox, it is common to suffer from physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms. The nature and severity of these symptoms vary greatly depending on the type of painkiller used and the frequency of use, but a superior detox centre will provide medical and supervised care to help alleviate any uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms, which can be in the form of joint and muscle pain, cramping, hot and cold sweats and nausea. It is a common form of painkiller detox to use a medically managed reduction process; this procedure should always be followed within a qualified detox centre.

The Referral Network will only ever refer addicts to a centre which has fully certified and capable staff to deal with every aspect of a detox.
